PQ Studio: Common Design Project celebrates the practice, craft and artistry of performance design. For PQ 2019, the Common Design Project will serve as the catalyst for a global discussion between students and educators around the world as they explore and create designs for Ubu Roi by Alfred Jarry. The project also includes organized critiques and discussion of the exhibited works.

Open Call for PQ+ 2019

The arts and theatre institute announces a call for participation in the PQ+ program taking place as part of the prague quadrennial 2019.

About PQ+ 2019

The PQ+ 2019 program organized by the Arts and Theatre Institute will be part of the 14th Prague Quadrennial (PQ), which takes place from 6 to 16 June 2019.  The main goal of the PQ+ program is to present foreign professionals and guests of PQ 2019 with contemporary Czech performing arts with attention paid to scenography.

The requested profile of presentations registered in the PQ+ 2019 program

The PQ+ 2019 program accepts various kinds of presentations, such as productions, performances, immersive, interactive and experience events, exhibitions, compositions and other formats of presentation of productions in theatre, dance, music, light design and sound design related to the field or topics of scenography. Presentations implemented in cooperation with artists/subjects residing in and outside Prague as well as productions from theatre seasons from 2011/2012 to 2018/2019 will be given preference during the preparation of the program.

Conditions for enlistment in the PQ+ 2019 program

Applications to the PQ+ 2019 program should be submitted online in this link. The PerformCzech Dramaturgy Board in association with the PQ team decide about the participation of the project in the program. The deadline for applications is 30th November 2018. The decision on the participation in PQ+ 2019 will be issued by 15th January 2019.

Benefits of implementation in the PQ+ 2019 program

The last edition of the international showcase took place in 2015 at more than 60 places in the center of Prague. There were more than 600 live performances and 150 exhibitions in which 78 countries from all around the world presented their works from the field of performance, costume, sound and light design in eleven days. More than 180,000 viewers including 6,000 accredited professionals saw the events and projects of the Prague Quadrennial 2015. More than 1,300 students from all around the world participated in student workshops and performances.

PQ+ 2019 promotion will be systematically aimed at foreign professionals and PQ visitors. There will be joint promotion for PQ+ 2019 in the form of printed material including all events and will be distributed not only in all PQ spaces, but also in organizations and institutions participating in PQ+ 2019 project. All projects will be presented at PQ web site and www.PerformCzech.cz, the promo website of Czech theatre, dance and contemporary circus abroad. Promotional activities will also include presentations in other forms of marketing and PR (a newsletter, press releases, social networks). Accredited participants will get information about PQ+ 2019 program with other materials during the registration.

Conditions for enlistment in the PQ+ 2019 program

– translation into English (subtitles, interpretation, annotations etc.) for presentations that are language barrier-free.
– the presentation must take place in Prague (accessible by public transport) within 6th-16th June 2019.
– artistic and financial means and production must be managed by the applicant.

The ATI will allocate an amount of money from the program of Promotion of Czech Performing Arts Abroad 2019, which will allow to share financial costs for organization of the event, such as  –

– tickets for foreign guests and/or
– translation into English and/or
– domestic transport and/or
– rental of space for the presentation.

Open Call for PQ Studio: Festival

The Festival in association with Zlomvaz Festival will present around 20 main performances in DAMU’s DISK Theatre and Řetízek Studio as well as additional site-specific performances and installations that are conceived and created with students as the driving creative force, offering the opportunity for emerging performance creators to have their work on an international stage and receive feedback from industry leading practitioners.

We are looking for students and emerging artists from across the fields of visual and performing arts to bring their work to the heart of Prague, and to become part of the incredibly vibrant international community that comes together every four years for the Prague Quadrennial. Open Call for The Best Performance Design & Scenography Publication Award

The Best Performance Design & Scenography Publication Award during the Prague Quadrennial 2015 received wide-spread public recognition, expanding the visibility of a diverse range of publications created about and around performance design and scenography.

Open Call for PQ Talks

PQ Talks is an exchange of presentations, forums, and discussions exploring all aspects of performance design. PQ Talks will follow the main themes of PQ 2019 connected with the cyclical phases of the creative process: Imagination, Transformation, and Memory. Through these areas the curators seek to explore “scenography” in its broadest sense, investigating what scenography is, what scenography could be, and what scenography was.

Open Call for PQ Studio: Workshops and Masterclasses

PQ Studio: Workshops and Masterclasses is a program of multi-day intensive workshops and exploratory masterclasses connecting established professionals with emerging and student designers. PQ is looking for professionals, educators, arts administrators, and emerging artists to lead workshops from all areas of the visual and performing arts – scenography, architecture , costume design, scenic/space design, sound design, lighting design and technology, digital media, projections, puppetry, technical theatre, dance and choreography, theatre theory, and fine art.

Formations

Formations includes artists of all genres who create clearly distinguishable art works rooted in pattern: patterns in time, space, sound, movements, bodies and/or materials. The performances or actions can be presented anytime day or night, for as long or as short as the artist wishes, and can occur once, or can be repeated at chosen intervals. Curators of the section are D. Chase Angier and Serge von Arx.

Open call for Performance Space Architecture Exhibition

Prague Quadrennial is asking architects/space creators and performance designers to participate in a competitive exhibition by sending us short videos about projects realized in past 6 years. All submissions need to show the space as well as how it is used in performance. All submitted videos must include a dialogue between the space creator (architect) and the performance designer/s or performers using the space. The documentary video can be made on a smartphone and shouldn’t exceed 5 minutes.

Fragments

Fragments creates a space for a recognition and celebration of achievements of the most celebrated designers of each country or region whose work keeps inspiring new generations of artists and audiences.

Site Specific Performance Festival

The particular interest of PQ 2019 Site Specific Performance Festival will be towards site-specific performances that respond to the specificity of the Prague Exhibition Grounds, and preference will be given to this work, although site-generic works, that have happened in many different environments or in any similar environments to this one, will also be considered.

The Exhibition of Countries and Regions has been the heart of Prague Quadrennial ever since. The aim of the next edition is to encourage curators and their teams to look at the exhibition design not as a separate entity, but rather as a site – specific collaborative scenographic task.
