More than 70,000 people visited Prague Quadrennial locations over the course of the eleven-day festival. A total of 8,005 professionals, students, and active participants used multi-day accreditation for the main part of the program, which consisted of exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and performances, 7,322 visitors purchased single-day tickets for the event. The outdoor spaces at the Holešovice Exhibition Grounds (including performances in Formations and the Site Specific Performance Festival), the Central Hall of the Industrial Palace, and various locations in the city center – including the Czech exhibition on Štvanice Island, the Finnish exhibitions at Holešovická Šachta and Containall, the Dutch student exhibition at the Praha-Bubny railway station, and the conceptual pop-up (also from the Netherlands) on Heřman Square – were open to public free of charge.
Approx. 10,000 people saw the PQ Studio: Festival, a program of student performances taking place at the DISK Theatre of the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (DAMU), at the X10 Theatre, and even in public city center spaces like the Rudolfinum or V Kotcích Street. 1,800 students participated in #Chill, the accompanying program to PQ Studio: Festival, at selected locations of the Prague alternative scene.
PQ team did not forget children or senior citizens either – those under the age of 15 and those over 65 were admitted free of charge and, in the case of the former, accompanying parents paid a discounted price. The visitors included 4,103 children and youngsters with their adult companions. It was particularly for this group that the Do You Have a Knack for Art? platform built a creatively playful labyrinth and organized fifty workshops. The special programs for schools engaged 947 pupils and students from kindergartens, primary, and secondary schools. A collaborative effort with the Prague 7 Municipal District resulted in a special tour for seniors guided by lecturers.
“Planning an event once every four years comes with a number of challenges – one of them is estimating the visit rate. To see these numbers proves how important and meaningful event PQ is. By returning to the Exhibition Grounds in Prague 7 district, we wanted to create a meeting place to which people – professionals and locals alike – would return. By opening the whole area to public and bringing roofs of the Křižík Pavilions to life in cooperation with the Lunchmeat Studio, we wanted to attract diverse crowds and to melt borders between different worlds. We would like to thank the artists, as well as our partners, colleagues, and all of the participants who took up the challenge with us,” says Pavlína Šulcová, Executive Director of Prague Quadrennial 2019.
