PQ > ACTIVITIES 2012

In the year 2012 we have focused on events in the Czech Republic and have concentrated on sharing our international connections and information with the local community:

In Prague in April 2012, Devised Dramaturgy, a Shared Space symposium, explored new strategies of creating performance scripts and space and was attended by over 150 theatre artists, professionals and students from 22 countries. The symposium was accompanied by Etiquette, a self-devised performance without actors held in a public space by Rotozaza. This performance was also presented at the Pilsen Theatre Festival in September.

For the Zlomvaz festival of the Prague Academy of Performing Arts we have organized a series of workshops for students of all theatre disciplines exploring the creation of space by the body of a performer.

We are especially proud of the PQ Spacelab project – a touring scenography residency for 8 Czech scenographers and scenography theorists, within which they had an opportunity to meet colleagues, visit galleries, workshops, theatres and theatre schools, and see performances in Bregenz, Austria, Riga, Latvia and Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

In September, we produced the Quiet Nose performance by Egon Tobiáš, directed by prominent Czech director Jan Nebeský. This site specific performance was created especially for the Nekázanka Street building in the very center of Prague where part of the Arts and Theatre Institute and Prague Quadrennial offices will be moved in very near future.

On December 6th, we closed the year with Scenography 2012 Party and live presentations of this year’s works by local scenographers.

of this year’s works by local scenographers.

Over the course of 2012 we were intensively building an interactive online educational project Scenography Expanding Library. We obtained the rights to translate articles into Czech and publish them online. These articles concerning contemporary performance theory and an expanding notions of scenography, have not been readily accessible to the Czech public in the past are are now available for free on our website.

In 2012 also the publication The Disappearing Stage was published, reflecting the most recent Prague Quadrennial in 2011. The PQ 2011 and the Intersection project are also reflected in the Desginated Space documentary movie, which is now available online.

Other symposia, publications, workshops on diverse range of related topics will continue in following years in between individual editions of the international exhibition and will be organized both in Czech and international context in cooperation with local and international partners.
